I am a passionate, dedicated educator with 20 years of experience working with adolescents across various populations, schools and settings. I have a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Middlebury College and earned a master’s degree in Secondary Special Education through the NYC Teaching Fellows program. I have been a high school Learning Specialist and IEP Coordinator in NYC since 2009, and hold New York and California state teaching licenses. Additionally, I am a certified ADHD coach accredited by the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine.
I understand that adolescence is a complicated and transformative time in a young person’s life that brings up new responsibilities and challenges for teens and their families. As an educator and coach, I harness my students’ unique interests, abilities and adaptations and teach them simple but effective strategies for academic success. I model and promote respect, radical self-acceptance and a growth mindset. My goal is to empower students to advocate for themselves and be able to navigate challenges with confidence and resilience.
I truly enjoy getting to know my students and take the time to understand their strengths and interests. I am then able to leverage that connection to introduce customized strategies that move them towards their individual goals. I welcome all learners, and have extensive experience with students of all abilities and neurotypes, including those with autism and ADHD.
I look forward to working with your teen and your family!
Warmly,
Katie
